Extraordinary people with ordinary responsibility
Rotary is a movement. One that moves human senses. And moves the entire world with it.
I am a part of the Rotary family. In am a Rotaractor, a member of the youth wing of theirs called Rotaract. In this opinionated essay on a phenomenon called Rotary and Rotarians I would be glad to call myself a human being and reflect the impressions of ‘just’ an ordinary man. For Rotary is a movement of extraordinary people with a sense of ordinary well being.
The world has taken millions of revolutions to reach thus far. Economies have redefined themselves. Societies have gone for a make up. And science has crossed the barriers of space and time. We have all moved on. But, sans our senses. For there remains our sense for things as ordinary as love, care, help, support, friend, relations, expressions… tucked in the primitive age, and taken for granted.
Rotary asks individuals to sense the importance of such human emotions, expressions and relations. And culture it in the society. Rotary makes Rotarians. People who give energy to this movement. Who are messengers of human senses. Who create that spark called ‘humans are for humans’, teach a new lesson to the world. Much to be fitting with Goldsmith’s quote, “You can preach a better sermon with your life than with your lips”.
Rotary and Rotarians have spread the word of ordinary senses. Senses that identifies with human emotions. Emotions that rule the mind. Mind that regulates the body. Body that does the movement. The movement, known as Rotary. Unseen, untouched… only felt, as Hellen Keller would put it, “the best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen, nor touched… but are felt by the heart”.
